Happy 40th you've got type 2 diabetes

I can't remember the last time I had a good pizza!

I woke up with pins and needles in my feet one morning and it's never gone away. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. So does that mean goodbye to all the food I love like pizza and pasta? Is there good diabetes type 2 food? I'm on a quest to find out or loose my feet.

The type 2 diabetes medications I've been taking are Avandamet and Glyburide to keep my blood sugars down. I've been trying to eat better over the last couple of years since the pins and needles (called diabetic neuropathy) arrived but the bottom line is this sucks! My feet are super sensitive too. Almost like hand to flame- if the dog steps on my foot I jerk it way. I can tell when I've eaten something that raises my blood sugar because the pain increases. Ah painful neuropathy. My Doc told me there's a chance that it could go away with the proper diet and exercise but it hasn't in two years. So is there really a cure neuropathy? You would think they've created a neuropathy drug already but I've not been informed of one.

I would like to find a diet that can help my diabetes without having to eat frozen lean cuisines or something like that. Hey Chris Berman, should I hook up with you and Nutrisystem? Some kind of drastic diet may be what I have to do but I suppose I'm like most people, during the day when I'm on the go, it's hard to resist fast food. I try to eat subway more often then Jack in the box or Burger King. I like burritos a lot and they're are some pretty good taquerias in Northern California so I'm lucky there but how many calories and carbs in a Carne Asada Super Burrito?

My wife ironically enough has Type 2 diabetes as well so we always try to eat a sensible meal at night. I will barbecue steak, chicken, porn and we'll have a green veggie with it. If we can get good fresh, fish (not farmed or color added) she will bake it. Come to think of it, I love seared Ahi on grill too!

Carbs: I've heard they're the enemy i.e. Atkins diet and I tried to go without them for a few weeks. I did loose weight but it's tough. I love bread, potatoes, and rice and they give you the feeling of being full. I'm a Chicago boy and I grew up on meat and potatoes! I can't remember the last time I had a good pizza!
